Emergency Travel Documents & Consular Assistance

If you lose your passport, have it stolen, or face an emergency while abroad, Kenya embassies and high commissions can provide emergency assistance.

In an Emergency

Contact your nearest Kenya embassy or high commission immediately. For life-threatening emergencies, always call local emergency services first (911, 999, 112, etc.).

Emergency Travel Document (ETD)

An Emergency Travel Document is a temporary document issued when your passport is lost, stolen, or expired and you need to travel urgently.

Requirements

  • Police report (for lost or stolen passports)
  • Two recent passport-sized photographs
  • Proof of identity (copy of lost passport, national ID, driving licence)
  • Travel itinerary / flight details
  • Completed ETD application form

Processing

  • ETDs are typically issued within 24-48 hours for genuine emergencies
  • Valid for a single journey back to Kenya or to the nearest Kenya embassy
  • Fees vary by embassy location
