Information for Kenyan Workers in Saudi Arabia

Saudi Arabia hosts tens of thousands of Kenyan workers, primarily in domestic service, hospitality, healthcare, and construction. The embassy provides critical support:

  • Contract disputes: The embassy can mediate with employers and refer cases to the Saudi Ministry of Human Resources
  • Abuse or mistreatment: Emergency shelter referrals and repatriation assistance
  • Passport confiscation: Illegal under Saudi labour reforms - the embassy can intervene
  • Unpaid wages: Assistance with filing complaints at Saudi labour courts
  • Repatriation: Help for stranded or distressed Kenyans to return home

Working in Saudi Arabia

Before accepting employment in Saudi Arabia, Kenyan citizens should:

  1. Verify the employer through a licensed recruitment agency registered with Kenya's National Employment Authority
  2. Get your contract attested - ensure your employment contract is attested by the Kenya Ministry of Labour
  3. Register with the embassy upon arrival in Saudi Arabia
  4. Keep copies of all documents including your passport, iqama (residence permit), and employment contract
  5. Know your rights under Saudi labour law - standard working hours, annual leave, end-of-service benefits

Visit whichever is more convenient. The Riyadh embassy is the main diplomatic mission. The Jeddah consulate primarily serves Kenyans in the western region, including those on Hajj and Umrah pilgrimages.

Contact the Kenya Embassy immediately and also file a complaint with the Saudi Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development (HRSD). Under Saudi law, employers must pay salaries on time through the Wage Protection System (WPS). The embassy can help mediate and refer your case to the appropriate Saudi authorities.
